This morning, on the way to the town of Chorges, I spotted a word on the road in big red letters: "Froome".
You guessed it - this very road we were driving on was part of this year's Tour de France. To think, that only a few weeks ago this road will have been packed with cyclists going hell for leather, with crowds of people watching the race. It will probably be, I would wager, the busiest this parts of the Alps has been all year.
Which is ironic, considering today has been the quietest it has been since I have been here. Since the thunderstorms this morning, no tourists or locals have even ventured up to the Lac de Saint Apollinaire this afternoon, when normally it is heaving with sunbathers, swimmers and fishermen. To hear nothing but the birds and the wind in the trees as I strolled by is quite a nice change.
Mountain areas can be enjoyed both when it is busy and when it is quiet. Though personally, as the title of this blog no doubt suggests, I definitely prefer the latter.
